Puppy Availability & Purchase Process

At Dark Horse Boxers, we focus on responsible placements over volume or speed. Our puppies are purpose-bred, carefully raised, and thoughtfully matched with their future homes. Because of this, we do not operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

This page outlines our current puppy availability and explains exactly what to expect when purchasing a puppy from our program.

Do You Have Puppies Available?

Puppy availability varies based on planned litters, confirmed pregnancies, and post-birth evaluations.

At any given time, we may have:

  • Puppies currently available
  • Fully reserved litters with an active waitlist
  • Planned or upcoming litters accepting applications

The most accurate and up-to-date information is always posted on our Litter Announcements and Available Puppies pages.

Submitting a puppy application is the best way to be considered for both current and future litters.

Our Puppy Placement Philosophy

Successful placements happen when the right puppy is matched with the right home.

Rather than allowing selection based solely on appearance, we evaluate puppies based on:

  • Temperament and confidence
  • Structure and movement
  • Energy level and drive
  • Compatibility with the household’s lifestyle and experience

This approach helps ensure long-term success for both the puppy and the family.

The Purchase Process

> Step 1: Puppy Application

All prospective buyers must complete a puppy application. This allows us to understand:

  • Your experience with dogs
  • Your household and lifestyle
  • Your goals for a Boxer companion

Submitting an application does not obligate you to purchase a puppy — it simply begins the conversation.

> Step 2: Application Review

Applications are reviewed carefully. We may:

  • Approve the application
  • Request additional information
  • Discuss upcoming litters that may be a good match

Approved applicants may be invited to submit a deposit once a suitable litter is confirmed.

> Step 3: Deposit & Reservation

Deposits are required to reserve a spot on a specific litter.

  • Deposits are non-refundable, but are transferable for up to 2 years from the date they are received.
  • A deposit holds your place within a litter, not a specific puppy.
  • Deposits do not lock in pricing. If you choose to move to a different litter with a different price point, the final puppy price will reflect that litter.

We limit the number of deposits accepted per litter to ensure that each family has a realistic opportunity to be matched with a puppy.

> Step 4: Puppy Matching

We do not place puppies on a first-come, first-served or pick-order basis.

Instead, puppies are matched intentionally based on:

  • Temperament
  • Energy level and drive
  • Structure and overall suitability
  • The goals and lifestyle of each home (pet, sport, show, etc.)

Once puppies are evaluated (typically around 7–8 weeks of age), we begin the matching process.

From there:

  • If there is not a suitable match within a litter, your deposit can be transferred to a future planned litter.
  • We prioritize best fit first, then do our best to accommodate gender and color preferences whenever possible.
  • Families are presented with the puppy that best aligns with what they’re looking for.

> Step 5: Go-Home Day

Puppies typically go home between 8–10 weeks of age, depending on development.

Before going home, puppies will:

  • Receive age-appropriate vaccinations
  • Be dewormed on a regular schedule
  • Receive a veterinary health check
  • Be introduced to basic handling and early socialization

Each puppy goes home with a comprehensive puppy packet and lifetime breeder support.
